The leaves are just starting to turn...

...I have been crunching some leaves on my walks around the neighborhood. I am not so broken hearted at the thought of summer passing for another year, actually I enjoy autumn as much I enjoy summer. So far we are still enjoying warm sunny days with cooler nights and I am content with that.

Life starts to get back into a routine of sorts for a lot of people at this time. Kids are back in school and other extracurricular activities. For myself, the workplace ramps up as we enter our busy season. Dance classes start again in another week and while I was happy to bask in the summer sun on the deck, now I am getting restless and ready to go back to the gym as well. I am also looking forward to the delicious soups and curries that go so well with the cooler temperatures. And of course, the approaching holidays - it is time to start thinking about what I am going to wear for Halloween...

Calaway Park

It has been years since I have been out to Calaway Park! I think I was still in junior high to be honest, maybe grade 10? By that age it's losing it's charm as a fun or cool place to hang out. And I have to admit that as a kid I was pretty upset when the park sold off the original carousel, it was a beautiful work of art but at that time carousel animals had become a hot collectors item so I guess it was only a matter of time.
I went during the last long weekend with my cousins who have 2 small kids. In reality the park hasn't changed much over the years. They have added more rides, and performance stages with live shows. Personally I love rides, aside from the Ocean Motion - that is one of the few that will make me sick to my stomach. Give me a twisting roller coaster any day! My cousins are not thrilled with rides so it was with a big smile that I agreed to take the kids on a couple of the faster rides. When you enjoy the ride yourself that is one thing. When you enjoy the ride with an excited kid who thinks this is the best ride they have been on all summer it just takes everything to a whole new level. And really, that's what going to an amusement park is all about. :)

Cut! Costume and the Cinema

I recently had the chance to check out the new show at the Glenbow Museum
Cut! Costume and the Cinema is open until September 28th and if you are a movie buff, if you are into costuming or historical time periods, if you are into the textile arts or fashion this is not an exhibit to miss! These period costumes are works of art in their own right. While it is easy to gloss over the details and the work that goes into them when you see the character on screen, this show gives you an up close look at how much work goes into a good costume and how they are able to convey information about a character and a time period in very subtle ways.
